We are Patricia and Mario, and we have created The Güens, a team of wedding photographers living in Cantabria, Spain with an authentic, unposed, cinematic style. In this post we would like to talk about how a wedding in Cantabria is, and give you some advice on how to have an unforgettable wedding day in this beautiful northern Spanish region.

How is a wedding in Cantabria?
Cantabria is a small, yet very beautiful region in the north of Spain. Despite its size, it has a huge variety of landscapes, from sand beaches and breathtaking cliffs, to 2500m+ mountains with a ski resort. It is often said that in Cantabria you can be taking a bath at the beach, and in 1 hour you could be skiing. Awesome, isn’t it?
A wedding ceremony in Cantabria can be both religious in a church -there are really beautiful churches, some of them more than 1000 years old- or a non-religious one, between which outdoors ones are becoming really popular, since there are very beautiful places where it can be done.
The characteristic green color of Cantabria’s landscape plays a key role in most weddings we see, specially on outdoor ceremonies. If you are into nature, getting married in Cantabria is an amazing idea.
Regarding venues, Cantabria offers a wide variety of places where you can celebrate your wedding, from old palaces to more modern spaces, and even an awesome greenhouse! Most of them are ready to celebrate an outdoors ceremony if that is your wish.

Some tips for your wedding in Cantabria
Unlike some other areas in Spain where it can get really hot during the summer, Cantabria has a very mild climate, which means weddings could be done all year round. However, Cantabria sees rain often, it could not be that green without rain. This is why we suggest you to choose a wedding venue in Cantabria that offers a covered ‘B Plan’ space for a wedding ceremony or cocktail time in case your main option for those is an open air space. Most venues are well prepared in case rain appears, but make sure yours is!
Also, another tip would be finding vendors who are fluent in English, specially those with which you will interact more before and on your wedding day, like your photographers. We are fluent in English and we know this plays a major role in every international wedding in which we are involved as wedding photographers in Spain. Two-way communication with your vendors is vital to make everything go as planned during your wedding in Spain.
